Volunteer of the Season: Helen Williams

Helen Williams is no Yes Man. She's a Yes Woman! Ask her if she can help out, and her response is always "YES!"
  • Can you pick up a dog in timbucktoo? YES!
  • Are you able to help out with baseball parking? YES
  • Can you take medicine to one of our fosters? YES!
If you've volunteered for TGRR lately, you've probably seen Helen around because, well, she's always around to lend a helping hand. She's the sweet chatty one with the British accent and the great smile.

Helen started volunteering for TGRR just a couple of years ago and hit the ground running. She first transported a dog for us, just hours after landing at PTI, returning from visiting her family in England. Nevermind jet lag, there's a dog that has somewhere he needs to go!

Within a year of starting, Helen was asked if she'd be willing to serve on the TGRR Board. Her answer? You guessed it, "Yes!"

"Helen is always willing to jump into the frying pan to learn new things so that she can help our Goldens," says Faye Wilhite, TGRR President. "She delighted in fostering puppies when no one else would even consider it."

Did someone say puppies? Helen has fostered all FIVE of the puppies TGRR has brought in since the time she started with us. Not only that, she housebroke them all! AND, drum roll please, she successfully taught them to ring a bell on the door to let their humans know they need to go out. I mean come on, right? Unbelievable!

She isn't just a one team player either - Helen has become an indispensable member of the Intake Team, Foster Team and our Adoption Team.

"Helen allows me to process adoption applications and place dogs more quickly, says Linda Sullivan, Adoption Team Coordinator. "When she was gone for 10 days recently, I quickly realized how much she does to keep the adoption process moving."

So Helen, we're OK with you heading to England to visit your family once in a while. Just know that we'll be lost without you and we'll have a ton of stuff to ask you to do when you get back. We hope your answer is always "YES!" Thanks from the bottom of our hearts for all you do for our furry hearts of Gold.

Volunteer Spotlight: Connie Cope

Our Spotlight Volunteer this season is Connie Cope! Talk about going above and beyond - Connie's latest foster dog was with her for eight months! In addition to being a foster extraordinaire, Connie also volunteers wherever she is needed, including the Transportation, Fundraising and Adoption teams. We sat down with Connie to learn more about her experience volunteering for TGRR.  How did you learn about getting involved?     I first learned of TGRR when I took my grandpuppy to an event at Oak Ridge Park several years ago. My grandpuppy (a Golden) who I had helped raise for her first 4 years and who was my savior after I became an empty nester was the inspiration to commit to volunteering for TGRR at some point in the future. Why did you choose to get involved?   I had been volunteering for Hiking Hounds, a dog walking group associated with the Forsyth Humane Society, for a few years and saw how volunteering could make a difference for rescue dogs. And...
