Volunteers of the Season: Spring 2019

Meet Foster Superstars, Kathy & Scott Lambeth

Scott & Kathy Lambeth and their pack
Triad Golden Retriever Rescue likes to make sure our volunteers know how much they mean to our organization and, more importantly, to all of our dogs. This is why we nominate volunteers each season who have gone above and beyond. This season's superstars are Kathy and Scott Lambeth! The Lambeth’s may have only been with TGRR for 8 months but their impact has been astronomical! The tireless and kind-hearted effort they put into everything they do does not go unnoticed. To see two people love not only dogs, but an organization so much, is inspiring! To get to know the Lambeth's a little better, and to hear about their experience so far, we asked them a few questions:

How did you learn about getting involved? We have always thought about starting or assisting a rescue. We attended a "Meet and Greet" and Faye (TGRR President) told us more about fostering/ transportWhy did you choose to get involved? We love dogs and have always wanted to help dogs in need. TGRR gave us the opportunity to fulfill our desire to help those dogs! How long have you been with TGRR? About 8 monthsWhich role is your favorite? Fostering but we would like to expand to pick ups if our work schedule permits. We have enjoyed learning so much about what takes place in finding a good match for a dog and its new owner. What has been the most rewarding part of being with TGRR? Watching the dogs transform and go to a new loving home. Hearing about how the dogs are settling into the new home, their forever home!Any specific stories stand out in your mind? Each dog has its own personality and being a foster parent allows us to watch that personality come to life. The joy of seeing a dog that doesn't play with toys just start playing one day.

What would you say to someone considering becoming a volunteer with TGRR?  The TGRR group of people are great. All you need is a love for dogs, a little patience and you will receive far more than you ever give from these wonderful pups.

Volunteer of the Season: Helen Williams

Helen Williams is no Yes Man. She's a Yes Woman! Ask her if she can help out, and her response is always "YES!"  Can you pick up a dog in timbucktoo? YES! Are you able to help out with baseball parking? YES Can you take medicine to one of our fosters? YES! If you've volunteered for TGRR lately, you've probably seen Helen around because, well, she's always around to lend a helping hand. She's the sweet chatty one with the British accent and the great smile. Helen started volunteering for TGRR just a couple of years ago and hit the ground running. She first transported a dog for us, just hours after landing at PTI, returning from visiting her family in England. Nevermind jet lag, there's a dog that has somewhere he needs to go! Within a year of starting, Helen was asked if she'd be willing to serve on the TGRR Board. Her answer? You guessed it, "Yes!"  "Helen is always willing to jump into the frying pan to learn new thi...

The Tale of the $3000 Dishtowel and Broken Hearts

S o TGRR is running out of money faster than normal this year. Lots of reasons, but the most entertaining by far involves Timo, one of the beautiful Champion Line Goldens we rescued in December from a less-than-reputable breeder. Timo in his Cone of Shame A couple of weeks ago, Timo stopped eating and then became very lethargic. After a couple of days, his foster, Sandy Cameron began to be very concerned and a trip to our fabulous vet partners, Dr. Julie Packard and Dr. Emily Westmoreland, at Bel-aire Veterinary Hospital was warranted. An x-ray showed that Timo had a mass in his colon.  O ff to Carolina Veterinary Specialists Timo went. The specialists at CVS concurred that Timo needed surgery and he needed it right now.  Much fingernail biting and praying went on as we waited anxiously for news.  F inally! A call to our President, Faye Wilhite, let us know the surgery was successful and that Timo's blockage wasn't a tumor at all.  An ordinary $3 dish...

Volunteers of The Season: Winter 2019

Meet Our Volunteer of the Season: Mary Lou Robison Mary Lou and her Annabelle (center), with Marilyn Reynolds (left) and Alexy Ferrell (right) Mary Lou is one of TGRR's most enthusiastic TGRR members!  Whatever volunteer activity she takes on, she does it with style and positive energy!  She encourages others to participate in the events she leads, and turns "work" into fun & success for TGRR. This past summer, Mary Lou was our B aseball Parking Committee Chair and she snagged more dates for TGRR than we've had before, she attended every single one AND raised more money that ever before! Mary Lou has been with us since 2009, wearing many hats besides her baseball parking one - she conducts home visits, helps coordinate adoption events, provides dog support to our fosters, takes dogs to appear on Fox8 Pet of the Week, and helps coordinate our annual picnic! We asked Mary Lou a few questions about how she got involved with TGRR, and what it has meant t...
