Volunteers of The Season: Winter 2019

Meet Our Volunteer of the Season: Mary Lou Robison
Mary Lou and her Annabelle (center),
with Marilyn Reynolds (left) and Alexy Ferrell (right)

Mary Lou is one of TGRR's most enthusiastic TGRR members!  Whatever volunteer activity she takes on, she does it with style and positive energy!  She encourages others to participate in the events she leads, and turns "work" into fun & success for TGRR.
This past summer, Mary Lou was our Baseball Parking Committee Chair and she snagged more dates for TGRR than we've had before, she attended every single one AND raised more money that ever before!
Mary Lou has been with us since 2009, wearing many hats besides her baseball parking one - she conducts home visits, helps coordinate adoption events, provides dog support to our fosters, takes dogs to appear on Fox8 Pet of the Week, and helps coordinate our annual picnic!
We asked Mary Lou a few questions about how she got involved with TGRR, and what it has meant to her:

What motivated you to get involved with TGRR?
I saw a Facebook post!I My love for my Golden, Annabelle, was the reason I wanted to volunteer with TGRR. We just lost her in November 2018 and miss her so very much.
How long have you been with TGRR? Since 2009
Which role is your favorite?
Baseball Parking because we get to tell the community about the wonderful work TGRR does and it’s a great fundraiser for the dogsWhat has been the most rewarding part of being with TGRR?
The ability to “ spread the word” about our wonderful group of dogs and know I am helping such a worthy cause Any specific stories stand out in your mind?
I was at an adoption event and we had a couple of dogs there.  A lady came in and literally stopped in her tracks to see a dog we had. The dog and the lady had an instant bond. She had to adopt that dog and she did. Another story is when I went to deliver a dog to a foster home. The dog ran into the foster home, jumped on the couch and “said I am home”.   And he was home - he became a foster "fail" and was adopted by them. What would you say to someone considering becoming a volunteer with TGRR?
DO IT! You WILL make a difference in a dogs life!
We agree Mary Lou! Volunteering DOES make a difference in so many dog's lives and you've played a big part in making that happen! We thank you for everything you have done with TGRR in your nearly 10 years with us!

Volunteer Spotlight: Connie Cope

Our Spotlight Volunteer this season is Connie Cope! Talk about going above and beyond - Connie's latest foster dog was with her for eight months! In addition to being a foster extraordinaire, Connie also volunteers wherever she is needed, including the Transportation, Fundraising and Adoption teams. We sat down with Connie to learn more about her experience volunteering for TGRR.  How did you learn about getting involved?     I first learned of TGRR when I took my grandpuppy to an event at Oak Ridge Park several years ago. My grandpuppy (a Golden) who I had helped raise for her first 4 years and who was my savior after I became an empty nester was the inspiration to commit to volunteering for TGRR at some point in the future. Why did you choose to get involved?   I had been volunteering for Hiking Hounds, a dog walking group associated with the Forsyth Humane Society, for a few years and saw how volunteering could make a difference for rescue dogs. And...
